China Project 8: Tulou Inspired Housing, Guangzhou

hardythomas000's Blog

Designer: Urbanis

Project: Designed to house 220 low income families in Guangzhou. Reinterpreting the 300 year old traditional dwellings built by the Hakka people of Southern China. The Hakka houses were originally designed as communal fortress like structures. Today they are often referred to as a model of communal living.

Why I like it: Not sure I do. But It’s interesting to compare it with the original Hakka homes. I’d like to experience living in one just to see if it does increase my engagement with my neighbors.
