Part 2 – Floor Table – Mark Brand
As already densely populated Asian cities become more inhabited, design solutions are looked to in order to make living within a smaller space comfier and more enjoyable. Architect Mark Brand addressed this problem by redesigning a surface that is generally unused for a majority of the time, so that it became a multifunctional object.
The table is able to ‘pop up’ from the floor and also recess back into the floor when more space is required. The design was installed in one of the company’s Japanese inspired show homes in San Francisco, America.
The space revealed by elevating the surface allows legs to be placed there, making the need for chairs redundant and therefore further increasing the amount of space available.
